What's the point of alpines?

Alpines are hardy plants that can survive a British winter. They like to grow at border edges, in rockeries, on and over walls, between paving, on banks and in gravel gardens and containers, on moist but very well-drained soils.

I don’t have moist but very well-drained soil.

And although, they are beautiful, alpines are tiny. They don’t seem to ‘go’ with…
